The Urban Digs Farm Tour
Like most urban farms, Urban Digs Farm is actually spread out over multiple locations including both residential neighbourhoods on the West Side, and rural/agricultural land very close to residential areas. We hope you'll come by and see us in person but in the meantime, here's a virtual tour to give you a sense of what we're up to and where we're doing it!
Burnaby Homestead FarmThis 3 acre farm is one of the last urban farms in Burnaby's Agricultural Land Reserve! Located just south of Marine Way, just 20 minutes away from our Dunbar and Steveston plots, this farm is our new homestead. After many years of neglect, we are working hard to bring this little farm back into production. The soil is spectacular, but it is covered with a thick crop of weeds at the moment. The majority of our vegetable production will take place in our 20x100 foot greenhouse this year while we use intensive pastured animal grazing to get a handle on the weeds. Our rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese and pigs are enjoying their home very much!
DeltaSuper excited about this new location! This one acre plot is located in some prime agricultural land and only 12 minutes from our Burnaby headquarters. We will be growing a wide variety of crops at this location this year including garlic, onions, leeks, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, beets, herbs, kale, swiss chard, beans, peas, radishes, potatoes, spinach and more! The garlic went in last fall and is looking great. With a beautiful view of Mount Baker and the surrounding Cascade range, eagles flying overhead and blueberry fields all around, it is quite a beautiful location.
SouthlandsSouthlands Heritage Farm is where we hold the Friends of Southlands Farm Market. This is a hyper local market with vendors and customers all from the local neighbourhood. This summer, we'll be holding this market on Saturdays from 4-8. Bring a picnic and have dinner in the orchard or around the camp fire! We're very proud to carry Southlands Farm goat cheese too! |
