Urban Digs Chickens

Picture
We've partnered with Miles at Cherry Lane Farm in north Richmond to bring you the most local, free range eggs from happy, pastured chickens. Ann Pacey is the expert chicken farmer, making sure that everyone is fed and watered every day even on the coldest winter mornings.

Our chickens are fed an all natural, vegetarian diet of whole grains with no antibiotics, hormones or other nasty stuff. Don't get us wrong though... these are no vegetarian birds! In the summer, they very much enjoy their job as the Cherry Lane pest patrol. Miles had been losing 90% of his apple crop to coddling moth so it was a natural fit to team up and run our chickens in his orchard.

Urban Digs works together with the City of Vancouver's Animal Control branch re-homing lost and wayward poultry. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us!

The chickens eat the emerging  larvae as they hatch in the ground, saving the apple trees from another year of infestation. Happy chickens, happy trees, and happy people who get to enjoy farm fresh eggs and crisp, juicy, apples that haven't been sprayed with nasty pesticides. Pretty cool huh?

The girls are a Rhode Island Red and Rhode Island White cross known to be hearty, great foragers and excellent egg producers. With a couple of handsome young roosters to protect them, everyone enjoys a pretty comfy life on the farm.

You can buy our eggs every day at our market. Join our mailing list for details or shoot us an email.
